Where to stay

Utrecht is the natural base for most trips: it is the largest of the places we cover, with 30 hotels across 3-, 4- and 5-star classes and the only 5-star hotel in the region. Around it, the smaller places each have their own character. Amersfoort, with 24 hotels, is the second-largest option and the one that comes closest to Utrecht in choice. Vinkeveen, with 26 hotels and 24 of them offering parking, and Breukelen, where all 15 hotels have parking, suit travellers who arrive by car. Abcoude and Rhenen are the smallest, with 12 and 15 hotels. Utrecht has by far the strongest guest ratings, and 17 of its hotels cater to families. Amersfoort has 19 hotels with parking, while Vinkeveen leads on that count relative to its size. Choose Utrecht for the widest mix of classes and the best-rated stays, Amersfoort for a smaller city with real choice, and the villages for quiet bases with parking.

Utrecht is the only place in the region with a 5-star hotel, and it also has the largest number of 4- and 5-star and 3-star hotels, 30 in total. Amersfoort, Vinkeveen and Breukelen have both 4-star and 3-star hotels, while Abcoude and Rhenen have 3-star hotels only. If you want the widest range of classes and the best-rated stays, Utrecht is the clear choice. For a smaller city with a real mix of classes, Amersfoort works well. The villages are best if you prefer a quiet base and parking, since Vinkeveen has 24 hotels with parking and Breukelen all 15.
